Not sure if this has been posted yet but I saw it today on MSNBC. Says that in a crash the fuel cap can come off causing a fire. Over 44,000 vehicles effected.

I wonder if they'll do a similar recall on the Crew Cabs. Any idea why they wouldn't?

I think it's great that Nissan is so proactive with an issue like this. Some automakers take a while to 'admit' that there's some fault with their vehicles. And really, as the saying goes, "An ounce of prevention..."

I went by my dealership today to pick up some parts and checked on this while I was there. They have heard about it , but Nissan has not sent a bulletin to them yet.
The funny thing is that the parts guy just got a package of the tethers in this week. They look the same to me except they are shiney and mine is dull. That could be from a year out in the elements. The service writer said no bulletin no replacement. The parts guy is going to call me as soon as they start the work so I can get in on the first supply of tethers. OkieScot |

They should just give us all modified Orange Thingys to fit the '05 and get rid of the darn tethers.

Yeah, I bought an "Orange Thingy" before really checking for fitment. Doesn't help much just sitting in the glove box

I had the gasoline cap tether recall done to my truck yesterday. I got the recall letter from Nissan today.
I had the tether replaced while they were changing my oil. The whole process took about 45 minutes. The only difference I could see between the original tether and the replacement is in the length. The new tether is a little over 1" longer. Otherwise I could see no difference in the configuration nor the size of them. OkieScot |

Funny thing, I read this thread last night and got the letter in the mail today. I guess we get priority and they're taking my car in tomorrow morning for the fix and a free wash. Can't beat that
