For those that offroad, may offroad, or consider offroading... The '05s R180A front differential housing may be a serious weak link. The aluminum housing may be prone to, well, exploding (for lack of a better term) if contact is made. So be sure to get a skid plate for protection, as soon as you can, if you are even considering playing off the pavement.
If the front diff housing grenades like this, all the diff fluid will run out. And since the '05 model does not have locking hubs, this will destroy the front axle, if you drive on it without fluid. There's no way to disconnect the gears, when you're in 2WD, so they'll heat up and be destroyed.
This is potentially a very, very costly problem, if you're not protected. If nobody makes a skid plate for the '05s, yet, that covers this thing, then my advice is to figure out how to make your own, or stay on the pavement until you can buy one. You DON'T want something like this to happen to your rig. Most likely, Nissan will NOT warranty this failure, as it would be considered an accident/crash, and you'd have to fight it out with your insurance company to cover it.
