well, the best laid plans fall thru sometime.
the guardian pro's were pulled and sat on the counter for the driver to leave without them. The manager looked to see who might have a pair in stock. No one but the hub. He offered to get me a in tommorow, but Im leaving town tomorrow so if I waited, it would have been a week. He then looked up the next guardian ultra. Those were everywhere except the store I was in. He called the next closest store and asked them to sell the ultras at the pro price for a "customer satisfaction" sale. well, after a 30 mile drive, I had two guardian ultra shocks in hand for $50.23 (different tax rate). 1. coodos to Autozone. 2. I think my truck sits a bit higher in the front. 3. I think my truck rides a lot better, but I dont know how much is mental and how much is actual.. 4. Both stock shocks were easier to compress than the guardians, the left would extend in a couple minutes, the right still hasn't extended..

I am glad Auto Zone did you right. Your shocks probably have a lifetime warranty also, don't they? To get the shocks free next time, all I have to do is
take the used shocks in with a receipt?

the shocks have a limited lifetime warranty. My name and phone number are logged in the AZ database along with everything else I bought there under warranty.
I only got to drive my truck a few miles with the new shocks, so I cant wait to get home and run around a bit...

Just a quick update on the shock front.
I put a pair of gabriel max load shocks on my truck today. These are the coil over shocks. first thing, the rear sway control bar had to be moved to get them in. I also jacked the truck up enough to extend the suspension to get the new shocks in. there is no compressing these by hand. No other real surprises putting them on. Good: back of the truck is an inch or two higher. Bouncing on my bumper produces little movement. Less so than with stock suspension (duh). Bad: Oh my these things are stiff. You hit a bump, you know it was there. At times, you hear the suspension hitting its extension limits. Thoughts. These have got to be the worse possible shocks for an unloaded, empty, light weight truck that you expect to ride like a car. I haven't had a chance to load it to see how well it runs loaded, but I would imagine it will help. I would compare the ride quality to riding in a 3500 series truck when its unloaded.

Do you have to have the torsion bars still on the truck when you have the coil-overs on? Are the coil overs strong enough by themselves? I guess for the rears,
you don't have a choice since the leafs help hold the axle in place.

the coil overs are only on the rear. the front is still torsion bar suspension with Gabriel Ultra shocks.
I would rather have coil overs on the front than torsion bars.
