I got my '06 Nismo CC 4x4 automatic about a week and a half ago. I love the truck. I have added the sliding bed extender and am getting an Access Rollup tono cover installed this Saturday. And I picked up the Nismo side steps this afternoon and will install them this weekend (nice looking by the way-aluminum so no rust, very light with a rough texture surface). I have been poking at the cold air intakes. I like the looks of the Nismo intake (part number 16576-RND26). It's black aluminum with NISMO written on it. I hate having to remove the plastic plenum cover with the silver Nissan emblem, but oh well. What's up with this R-Tune and S-Tune thing? I read that R-Tune is considered off road and S-Tune is considered for the street. The Nismo intake is an R-Tune device. Does this mean I will fail my Massachusetts emissions test? I thought if it was manufactured by Nissan it would be safe to use. Any thoughts? Thanks, 06NISMO

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	R-tune is Nismo "race spec" and S-tune is Nismo "street spec" or "sport spec". All emissions hose and functions are retained. That said, an inspector with a bug up his... who looks under your hood might fail you due to a 'modification', even though emissions are still within legal parameters. I once failed a motorcycle inspection because my handlebars were too low! This was in the 70's, I had a cafe racer,before sport bikes. There was no law on how low the bars could be, only how high (IE Ape Hangers).

That being said, I would recommend talking to a local mechanic you trust about this. When I was debating myself over my K&N drop-in, I talked with 2 mechanics at the same shop who sid that all their vehicles have always had K&N's in them; that was enough to convince me... Steve..I always used K&N dropins as well. Then someone posted this link: www.jackphelps.com This guy dynoed all of his improvements on his Frontier. Amazing follow through. He found zero (that's nada) hp gain with the dropin K&N. Someone should send the link to the K&N engineers and ask why. 06NISMO

I bought my CAI from him..so that my aFe that he tested. Its a good site, he hangs on Nissanforums.com I think the R-Tune thing really comes into play with the headers, and not really the CAI.

Gear shift knobs, wheels, etc. = S-Tune. Intakes, exhausts, etc. = R-Tune. Just my 50 cents (inflation). Steve '05 Black SE CC 6spd 2wd Black Frontier Don't sweat the little things!
