Ok, it's been awhile since I posted here but I feel that more people are running with bad knock sensors and getting crappy performance and gas mileage. To change the knock sensor you have to pull the intake manifold, supercharger ,fuel rails and other crap off to get to it. It is directly in between right and left cylinder banks.Too much of a headache for me. So I decided to relocate rather than to tear it apart. I decided against the 570kOhm mod to fool the computer that there is a working knock sensor in fear of engine damage.
you need a harness and knock sensor from a 1995-99 Maxima.
Same specs as ours. Dealer told me 350-450 to change it.
1. Harness part #24079-31U01

2.Knock Sensor # 22060P Courtesy has it for $141.00 but I got it off Ebay for $39.00 plus shipping

3. 1 M6-1.0 x 30mm cap screw
4. 2 washers
5. Locate the harness on the right side of the engine on top of the valve cover if you are looking from the front bumper it is on the left. You will see four harnesses next to the oil cap, 1 harness has blue wire to it the other has red wire. The harness directly to the right in front of the harness with the red wire is the one you need.
6. You need to pull harness apart, you will need the male end.Part nearest the radiator.
7. Pull the retainer out(small dental pick or micro screwdriver) and remove the bottom 2 left pins looking at the connector head on. Insulate the 2 holes in the connector the wire was in to keep crud out. Reconnect the harness
8. Pull the pins out of the Maxima harness and which will be male and insert them into the female pins you pulled from our harness. Electrical tape them good.
9. Mount the knock sensor to the top of the intake manifold towards the front, you will see several bolt holes.
10. Clean off the mounting point as to allow good ground, even though the bolt will do the grounding.
11. Use the bolt and washer listed above to secure the knock sensor, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN OR DROP THE KNOCK SENSOR WHILE HANDLING.
12. Plug in the harness to the sensor
13. Plug in you OBD2 scanner and clear previous code.
14. Start the motor and drive around for several minutes shut off the motor and recheck the codes.
15 Viola for less than 75.00 you have a working relocated knock sensor you can get to.
The increase in HP is back to normal with no missing due to the retarding of the engine from the knock sensor. I hope this will help someone out who is pulling the bad knock sensor code and experiencing poor performance. The resistor mod works but I would rather have a working knock sensor even though it is relocated it can still pick up engine knock.
I don't know how to post pics but if you e-mail me I have step by step photos. Maybe somebody can post them up for me.

Ps. You can pull the pins out of the female end and insert the maxima male pins in there and reconnect, but I couldn't get the pins to stay in even with the retainer
